A Forbes man was refused bail in Parkes Local Court today after being charged with possessing one of the largest quantities of amphetamines discovered in Forbes for many years.
Police charged a 33-year-old man with supplying a prohibited drug, resist arrest and other related offences on Tuesday, after searching his vehicle in Forbes.
Police said information from the public led to the search of a Nissan Navara utility at 12.40pm on Tuesday near the intersection of the Newell Highway and River Road.
Police said a woman and young child were also in the vehicle at the time.
Detective Sergeant Steve Howard of Lachlan Police said the vehicle was stopped by police and the occupants were informed they were to be searched due to the suspected presence of a prohibited drug.
Sgt Howard said police allege that one of the occupants attempted to dispose of a sealed plastic bag, prompting a short struggle between officers and the accused.
Sgt Howard said police then located a bag, later found to contain about 22 grams of amphetamine, more than seven times the amount considered to be indictable for supply (3g).
He said a subsequent search of the occupants and the vehicle also discovered syringes, an amount of money and weapons.
Sgt Howard said the man was conveyed to Forbes Police Station and charged with supplying an indictable quantity of amphetamines, resist arrest and possession of offensive implements (syringes).
