A new television commercial will be hitting the airwaves across the Central West this week in a bid to curb youth binge drinking.
The commercial is part of the Forbes and Parkes Community Drug Action Team’s (CDAT) new project Have No Regrets, which is being launched in Parkes.
CDAT President, Alison Aldridge, says the project is about educating youth on the negative and sometimes embarrassing consequences of binge drinking.
“Our youth team members really drove this project. They developed the storyboard for the commercial and starred in it,” Ms Aldridge said.
“There will be the full length 30 second commercial as well as a shorter 15 second commercial on the air.
“The commercials depict a group of young people drinking at a party and then a couple of possible negative consequences for a young girl who has drunk too much and then the next morning can’t remember what she did the night before.
“We are really happy with the finished product. It’s a very believable scenario which we hope will impact on the audience,” Ms Aldridge said.
Guides for parents for dealing with teenagers and alcohol as well as pocket guides for teenagers to having a good night out are going to be distributed to high school students and their parents in Forbes and Parkes to coincide with the launch.
The guides offer information on how alcohol affects the body, what happens when drugs and alcohol are mixed, tips for safe drinking, the law, drink driving, seeking medical attention and more.
“The guides have an abundance of information to offer. The parent guide is designed to help them guide their teenager through their likely experimentation with alcohol. The pocket guide for teenagers outlines how to have a good and safe night out.
“We are hoping that the take home message for youth who view the commercial is to not drink so much they can’t remember what they did last night. It’s simple - have no regrets,” Ms Aldridge said.
