 Roof over 'bowlie' deck

Roof over 'bowlie' deck

Some of the first fruits of the Federal Government stimulus package have begun to be seen in Forbes with the roof over the deck at the Forbes Sport and Recreation Club now on.

In November the Federal Government announced more than $300 million funding for local governments.

The funds were provided for small scale local infrastructure projects such as sporting grounds, footpaths, community centres, libraries and much more.

The package was aimed at staving off the worst of the Global Financial Crisis and Forbes Shire Council received a $494,000 slice of the funding.

The funding was allocated to 11 projects across Forbes and the Forbes Sport and Recreation Club was just one.

The Club received $15,000 and Lyn Ford said the work could not have gone ahead without this assistance. The deck was completed at the end of last month and there’s still more work to be done with a barbecue and char grill to be installed and a garden to be constructed.

“It paid a bit over half the cost of the roofing which will now allow us to add the barbecue area,” Ms Ford said.
