Forbes Diggers Swimming Club was blessed with ideal conditions for Sunday’s 16th Pup Cup teams event.
Twenty-one four person teams contested the 4x50m relay, a memorial to former member Tim ‘Pup’ Baass.
The winners were Diggers stalwart Ben Coles, pool manager Rob Aston-Brien and his son Matt and Graham Rudd.
Collectively, the four were just 0.09 seconds outside their nominated time.
The runners-up proved that experience is vital, with Diggers executives Norm Cook and David Sly joined by Greg Grogan and John Gunn, to swim 0.32 seconds off their nominated time.
Third were Adam Andrews, Ryan Schatz, Dennis Byrnes and Neil Morrison, who were 0.4 seconds outside.
Diggers president Peter Drane said the strong interest in Sunday’s 16th Pup Cup was a mark of respect for Tim Baass, who was represented at the pool by his parents John and Pam, sister Sonya and family.
The junior 30m individual category was won by Toby Brown with Nick Guise second and Alex Coles third, while the 50m swim for juniors was won by Nicole Morrison with Mitchell Jack second and Cameron Williams third.
Danielle Forbes won the 30m swim for adults from Dave Hodgetts and Brian King, while Chris Jones won the 50m adults event from Ben Coles and Chris Haggarty.
The club also presented its trophies for the highest points over the summer for adult and junior swimmers, with Norm Cook getting his name engraved on his first ever trophy in the seniors category.
Dennis McGroder was second and Mark Stibbard third.
Matt, Gus and Jordan Coles were first, second and third respectively in the junior pointscore.
Diggers will continue meeting each Sunday until the pool closes next month with swims starting about 10am.
Cathy Cooper won a fundraiser raffle for an Engel fridge, drawn at an afternoon get-together and raffle. Proceeds will be used to build a new barbecue area at the pool.
