Top students honoured

09 Feb, 2010 10:23 AM
Red Bend Catholic College staff and students recognised the school’s top academic achievers of 2009 last week when 15 former students were honoured at the school assembly.

The recent graduates were presented with awards from principal Brother John Hilet for achieving band six results (90 per cent or more) in one or more of their HSC subjects.

Only 10 of the 15 band six recipients could attend the presentation ceremony, as some have already started tertiary studies or work.

The 10 students who were able to attend are all about to disperse to universities around the state or to studies in the ACT, including Dux of Year 12, Jessica Tighe of Parkes.

Jessica and Charlotte King have both gained entry to the Bachelor of Journalism / Law course at the University of Canberra and will soon begin their studies.

Sarah Spry has also accepted an offer to study at the University of Canberra, in the Bachelor of Education (middle school teaching) program.

Simone Norrie is off to Charles Sturt University, Bathurst to study a Bachelor of Sports Studies and Journalism, while Michaela Buchanan will embark on a Physiotherapy degree at CSU’s Albury campus.

Britt Sharpe and Anna Paul are both about to begin tertiary studies at the University of Wollongong. Britt will begin a Bachelor of Nursing, while Anna will pursue studies in Environmental Engineering.

Abby Tinlin has gained entry to the Law / Social Science degree at the University of Newcastle, and Ashleigh Armitage will study Psychology and Coaching Science at the University of Canberra, with a view to a career in sports psychology.

Jarred Trainor is off to Sydney to begin a Science and Information Technology degree at the University of Technology (UTS).
