Arts for all

11 Aug, 2011 09:27 AM
For many, next month’s Kalari Lachlan River Arts Festival will be their first exposure to a major arts and cultural event, said festival coordinator Merrill Findlay.

Ms Findlay and festival director, Stefo Nantsou, visited Red Bend Catholic College on Tuesday to officially unveil the poster for the event, which will be held on the banks of Lake Forbes on September 3-4.

The visit to the secondary school was also an opportunity to invite students to get involved.

“What I’m finding is that many people have never experienced an arts festival before, and young people especially have never experienced an arts festival,” Ms Findlay said of the upcoming event.

“This festival is a celebration of country creativity and resilience after a decade of drought. It has everything from arts and craft to digital media, right through to food production and gardening,” she said.

If anyone had doubts about the community support for the festival they would have been put to rest with a glance at the colourful poster, designed by Sandra Luthi, a graphic design graduate from the University of Canberra.
