Five Forbes Primary School students will represent the town when they travel to Sydney to compete in State Athletics next month.

The carnival will be held at the Sydney Athletic Centre at Homebush and the five boys gained entry following some outstanding results in lead up carnivals.

Kenan Hills, George Steele-Park, Brad Herbert, Tyler Smith and Fletcher Lyneham are the boys who will represent the school.

They won through to the State carnival following outstanding results in three lead up carnivals.

The boys were required to come first at the Forbes Primary School Athletics Carnival to move on to the District carnival at Parkes.

The boys were then required to come first, second or third at Parkes to move onto the Western Region Carnival at Dubbo where either first, second or third was again required to book a place at the State Carnival.

Kenan Hills will represent the school in the 11 years discus following his win at the Western Region Carnival in Dubbo and Brad Herbert will take part in the in the senior boys discus and shotput after securing a personal best of 10.12 metres and winning his events in Dubbo.

Tyler Smith also scored a personal best of 1 metre 40 centimetres to win the senior boys high jump at Dubbo and he will take to the field in the same event at State.

Fletcher Lyneham will contest the nine years 100 metres after finishing third at the Western region carnival and George Steele-Park will compete in the junior boys long jump after finishing third in Dubbo with a personal best of 3.85 metres.

The boys say they are looking forward to making the trip to Sydney but say the State Carnival will be another step up.

“Everything,” said Brad Herbert, one of the competitors, when asked what he likes about athletics.

“You get to meet new friends.”

The State Carnival takes place at Homebush on October 28 and 29.
