Step up to plate

The Forbes town cricket side have cruised to a 112 run win in their Country Plate clash with Narromine on Sunday.

It was a dominant performance with both bat and ball from Forbes and three batsmen recorded scores in excess of 50, led by a captain’s knock of 99 not out from Daniel Bayley.

It’s thought to be the first time in more than a decade that three Forbes batsmen have achieved these scores in one innings and if that wasn’t enough Forbes quick Lee Dunstan stepped up to the mark and took an incredible 6/52 from 10 overs.

“Yeah, very pleased,” said Forbes captain Daniel Bayley when asked about the win.

Bayley said things did not look good when the side drifted to 5/68 but the recovery was pleasing.

“It was good to get some runs on the board.”

Bayley said that while it was personally disappointing not to notch a century, the victory for the team was more important.

“I was happy to get to 99,” he said.

“You always look for those personal things but it was a good team result and I’d rather the team do well.”

Forbes won the toss and made first use of the pitch.

Matt Coles and Scott Neville opened the batting and two early wickets saw the side struggling at 2/3.

Neville lost his wicket for three shortly afterward, leaving Forbes at 3/15, and new batsmen at the crease, Mitch Bayley and Adam Hall, were left with the task of rebuilding.

Hall was run out for 20 bringing number six Jayme Sherritt to the middle.

Sherritt and Tom Caldwell were both out cheaply, Sherritt without score and Caldwell for one.

Mitch Bayley was joined by Forbes captain Daniel Bayley and the brothers set about building a solid partnership.

Mitch was caught for 55 with the score at 7/103, bringing Matt Roylance to the middle.

Roylance picked up where Mitch Bayley left off and he and Daniel Bayley combined for a much needed 136 run stand.

Roylance was out for 55 but the damage was done with the Forbes total at 8/239.

Bayley continued to plough toward his century but the wickets began to tumble around him.

Gus Coles was out without score and Mark Williams for four, leaving Bayley stranded on 99 not out and Forbes all out for the score of 262.

Narromine opened their innings briskly with Brad Perry getting to 19.

Dunstan got his first wicket when Dwane Kent fell for 21.

He followed it up to claim the wickets of Doug Potter and Bronson Barker without score.

Aaron Clark followed, also without score, and Tod Porter went for five.

Kale Bock went for 47 and with the score at 7/109 a Narromine win now looked extremely unlikely.

Forbes spinner Mitch Bayley tidied up the tail, claiming Tony Harding for five, Josh Wrench for one and Jordan Richardson for 33.

Sam Crook finished not out on two, leaving Narromine 112 runs short.

Lee Dunstan finished with 6/52 and Mitch Bayley 3/20.

Forbes now meet the winner of the Wellington and Gulgong match.

Town cricket training takes place on Wednesday nights from 5pm at South Circle Oval.
