Squash competition draws a big field this year

07 Feb, 2012 09:49 AM
Organisers of this year’s Forbes Squash Open are confident the tournament will again attract players from across the state.

The tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, March 17-18, at the Forbes Golf Club courts with up to six divisions for men and five for women.

Last year’s event drew a field of 59 players, only slightly down on the successful inaugural open in 2010.

Players came from Sydney, Canberra, the Central Coast and from towns and cities across the Central West for the tournament.

Sydney players Michael Bolton and Nisha Casey were the men’s and women’s open winners, defeating Dave Hunt and Parkes junior Kristen Nightingale in the respective finals.

Forbes Squash Club president Garry Dempsey said both winners and other high-ranking players are expected to return in a little under six weeks.
