At a school assembly on Friday, Jan Bradley, Leonie Burton and Lisa Griffiths received their National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA).
The program says the awards give communities the opportunity to formally thank their hard-working teachers.
Ms Horan said teachers at St Laurence’s worked hard and getting recognised for their work was an honour.
“They were surprised to be acknowledged and they felt very honoured to receive the award,” Ms Horan said.
Ms Horan was not aware of any staff nominating the teachers and said the nominations must have come from students’ guardians.
“It’s special to be acknowledged by the parent community.”
She said she was proud of the teachers who approached their work as “more than a job”.
“It’s demanding and our teachers put so much effort in,” Ms Horan said.
NEiTA chairman Terry O’Connell said the awards helped raise the profile of teaching and the important work educators performed in the community.
He said quality teaching made a difference in communities and in children’s futures.
