Coalition MPs gather in Forbes

Forbes residents will have their own question time during a visit by four of the country’s top Coalition MPs tonight.

Shadow Minister for Agriculture and Food Security John Cobb, Shadow Minister for Finance, Deregulation and Debt Reduction Andrew Robb, Federal Member for Riverina Michael McCormack and Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester will be speaking at a special dinner at the Forbes Services Club tonight.

Late last week Mr Chester said he was looking forward to visiting Forbes.

As part of tonight’s dinner, Mr Chester said he will be discussing issues associated with his Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Roads and Regional Transport portfolio.

“There are a range of infrastructure and transport issues which are being raised by regional communities across Australia,” Mr Chester said.

During the evening Senior Liberal MP Andrew Robb will be speaking about backing Australia’s strengths in the Asian century.

“This century presents enormous opportunities for our nation, but to take advantage we need a government that will back our strengths.

“Instead of undermining our strengths with carbon and mining taxes and choking regulation we need to protect and nurture them so we are in the best possible position to capitalise on them.

“There is simply no time to waste,” he said. Mr McCormack said he will be speaking about the lighter side of politics and the Murray Darling Basin situation.

In line with his own portfolio, Mr Cobb will speak on the face of agriculture in Australia, now and in the future.

Tonight’s dinner will be held at the Forbes Services Club from 6:30 pm.

The dinner is $50 per person and can be purchased until 12noon today, by contacting chairman of the Forbes Branch the Nationals Darren Borger on 0407 514 296.
