Both events were considered an outstanding success by organisers, with Forbes Netball’s coach convenor, Robyn Kenny saying the all age carnival was their biggest yet.
“It was one of the bigger ones we’ve had because of NetEd, which brought extra teams that normally wouldn’t come,” she said.
“We hope those teams will come back next year.”
About 60 teams and over 700 players competed on the day with over 400 games played.
Carnival convenor Marg Spackman said there were 17 rounds of games played non-stop all day.
“It was a tremendous success,” she said.
“There were people everywhere.”
Teams from all parts of the West, Central West and Riverina competed, including Bathurst, Orange, Condobolin, Parkes, Griffith, West Wyalong, Cowra, Young, Temora, Tumut, Group 14, Yass, Coonabarabran and Blayney.
Ms Spackman said it was great to see teams come all the way from Tumut, Yass and Coonabarabran especially.
“We have not had them before and it’s a long way for them to come,” she said.
“People come from all over because they know our carnival is so good, so they always come back.
“The hard work is worth it then.”
Bathurst dominated all age divisions on the day, except in the 15s competition, which Forbes came runner up to the Griffith team.
All up Forbes had nine teams in the competition, covering every age division.
The NetEd day on Saturday was also a great success with about 30 coaches and nearly 20 umpires from around the Central West attending to update and improve their skills.
“It was extremely successful,” Ms Kenny said.
“It was the third year is has run – last year it was at Bathurst and it was in Dubbo the first year.”
Ms Kenny said it was great that Forbes were given the chance to hold it this year.
“We campaigned very hard with Netball NSW for it to be in Forbes and they supported us, which was good,” she said.
Netball NSW’s School’s Cup was also held on Monday between years 5 and 6 and years 7 and 8 from around the Central West.
The winners of those games will now travel to Orange for the regional finals.
“This is a new initiative that was started last year by Netball NSW,” Ms Kenny said.
“We held it last year too.”
Ms Kenny said Forbes is able to hold events such as these because Forbes Netball Association is very active within the Central West region.
“I’m very proud to think that we can be relied on to organise such big events, which bring a lot of people into town,” she said.
