While the Forbes Preschool, Garema Hall, Forbes PA&H Association and Forbes Golfers Association have been the major beneficiaries, more than 30 other organisations have claimed varying levels of funding for their projects.
Notably, Forbes volunteers have been recognised for their tireless efforts in assisting a range of local community groups.
Volunteers are the backbones of our communities and a total of 10 organisations received $42,877 in funding through the Volunteer Grants Program by the Department of Social Services (formally FAHCSIA).
Mayor Ron Penny says having a grants officer at Forbes Shire Council has been invaluable to the community.
“We are so pleased with the results our community groups are experiencing when it comes to funding opportunities,” he said.
“It means Forbes is being recognised as a progressive community within the central west and can provide improved services not only to the immediate community but also to outlying towns west of Forbes.”
Some of the great projects that have come from funding include improvements to the Bundaburra Ski Dam amenities, which will make the summer ski season all the more comfortable and appealing for users.
There is also the recently announced refurbishment of the town library which has long been the home of Forbes Family History Group, the historic Paul Wenz collection and essential reading activities for young children and their carers such as Rhyme Time.
Any organisations looking to receive funding for their next project can get in touch with Rachel Lilley at Forbes Shire Council on 6850 2300 or at Rachel.lilley@forbes.nsw.gov.au
