Losing their first game of 2013 in last year’s grand final against the Magpies, the Rams began their preparations for the Molong clash with a comfortable 19-5 round one win over Grenfell at King George Oval last Saturday.
Toohey said with his side’s next match against Molong, set to coincided with the Magpie club’s 60th anniversary celebrations at the Molong Recreation Ground, the Rams will be aiming to spoil the party.
“I hope so,” Toohey laughed.
“We haven’t really spoken about last year’s grand final but with Molong celebrating 60 years there will no doubt be a big crowd there to cheer them on.”
Last weekend at Blayney, the Rams showed they’d again be contenders to play on the final day of the GrainCorp Cup southern zone competition with a sound but scrappy effort against a determined Grenfell Panthers.
Racing to a 14-0 lead by the break, the Rams slowed somewhat to fight out a 5-all second period against the visitors.
Toohey said he was more than happy with the round one win.
“It was a pleasing result,” he said.
“It was a pretty comfortable first half but it ended up a little scrappy, but that’s to be expected in round one.
“A lot of the boys from last year’s side are back, which is great. We’ve got a fairly experienced pack and there’s only a few changes out wide.”
One of those changes in the backs is at the scrum base.
Louis Fardell has retired while Sean Toohey has been handed first crack at the vacant No.9 jersey.
Rugby league convert Ben Williams is another addition, slotting in at fullback for the Rams for the 2014 GrainCorp Cup season.
