Forbes was chosen as the host of this year’s Morris Register car rally which meets every two years over the Easter long weekend, alternating locations around the states.
The 2012 rally was held at Port Pirie hosted by the South Australian Register.
Yesterday there was an official welcome event for the Morris Register members at Town Hall.
Over 200 vintage Morris cars will be in town, making an appearance at the Camel Races on Good Friday before having a display day on Saturday, April 19.
The cars will be on display at South Circle Oval between 10am and 3pm.
While checking out the impressive display of old cars, Forbes residents can also enjoy market and food stalls on the day.
This will be followed by an official dinner and presentation dinner on Sunday at the Forbes Services Club at 7pm.
The winner of the Mayor’s Choice award will be presented after an official speech by Forbes mayor Ron Penny.
Finally, there will be a farewell for the Morris Register cars at Town Hall from 9.30am Monday, April 21 where the mayor will give a farewell speech.
The Parkes Antique Car Club will also be bringing their cars to Forbes for a display day on Easter Sunday in Victoria Park from 10am to 3pm.
There will be market stalls and live entertainment on the day
Forbes Shire Council’s promotions and events assistant Penelope McGufficke encourages everyone to go along and support both car rallies.
“We’d like to invite and see a lot of Forbes residents turn up to welcome our visitors,” she said.
“We have an expectation of over 400 people coming to Forbes for the weekend, which is great for local businesses and tourism. Both events will have market stalls and food venues.”
