This is a new tourism initiative to show people just how many events are on throughout the year and to encourage them to plan ahead to go along to as many as they can.
“The idea is that we want everyone to know what’s going on in Forbes and for them to see how much is actually happening,” Forbes Shire Council’s marketing manager Sarah White said.
“Research has shown that people more and more want to plan what they’re doing and this is a great way to do that.”
Ms White said having a list of events on people’s fridges is great for when they have out-of-town family and guests visiting, especially at a time like Easter, because they are likely to see something and think that sounds like a great event and then plan to come back for it.
“They can then plan their holidays around it, which is a great tourism strategy,” she said.
“It’s a great talking point.”
Ms White said the magnet is a great snapshot of what’s going on in town.
“We have some really exciting things going on, especially the new Farmer’s Markets event coming up which is a great thing for Forbes,” she said.
“We’re also starting to get some signature events in town such as the Forbes Rodeo, the Motor Show and National BBQ Championships to name a few, which are becoming very popular.”
Council have been working on this magnet for a number of months and hope for it to become a yearly thing.
“We asked community groups and organisations to submit their events, so hopefully we have everyone,” Ms White said.
“We’ll be doing it every year but it will be sent out at the end of each year for the next one.
“People can submit their events for 2015 right throughout the year, rather than waiting until the last minute.”
