Football NSW coach Doug McKenzie was in Forbes to run the three-day camp for Mini Roos (three to five years olds) and six to 13 year olds.
Mr McKenzie said the attendance was great considering it was the first time it has run and due to other holiday camps happening at the same time such as golf and tennis.
“We had 15 initially register and as word spread we had a lot more for day and two day three join up,” he said.
Soccer development and learning sessions were held for boys and girls aged between three and five on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am to 9.45am, while the older kids had three hour sessions from 10am to 1pm.
“They learn to pass, dribble, learn to shoot, ball control and running with the ball,” Mr McKenzie said.
“We also play a number of games … every kid here has a ball to themselves and touches on the ball the whole time which is great.”
Mr McKenzie hopes to run the camp every school holidays from now on, except summer and from there wants to start doing development squads with under 8s to under 15s and running coaching programs for parents and coaches.
“They don’t have highly qualified training out here and often don’t get the weekly opportunity to train, so I want to change that,” he said.
