In 18 days, the production team have raised $20, 165 through Kickstarter, an online fundraiser for independent creative projects.
With a final goal of $75, 000, the film’s Melbourne based writer, director and producer Matthew Holmes said the project still needs more pledges to make the film a reality.
“We’re not going too badly, we’ve raised 26 per cent in 18 days,” Mr Holmes said.
“But we need some numbers.”
To help garner support for the 30 minute film, Mr Holmes will travel to Forbes on Thursday along with lead actor Jack Martin to present his cinematic vision to a public meeting in the council chambers, from 5.30pm.
Mr Holmes will show the Kickstarter video, give a five minute pitch of his film and show behind the scenes videos to generally raise interest and awareness on what he hopes to achieve.
If the film goes to production, The Legend of Ben Hall premiere will be held in Forbes next year for the 150th anniversary of Ben Hall’s death before touring the country in a bid to raise Australia’s awareness of colonial history and promote tourism in central NSW.
This will hopefully become a vital stepping stone for Mr Holmes’ proposed three hour epic feature of the entire Ben Hall story.
However for these goals to be reached, the film must reach its fundraising goal.
Mr Holmes said all donations are welcome and that the size of the donation does not matter.
“I guess we want people to know that we don’t ask for large pledges…anything from $2 upwards helps.”
“The more pledges we get builds a momentum and if it looks like the project is going to reach its goal, Kickstarter advertise the project, so everything helps.”
“And if there are businesses out there who are thinking of helping with a sizeable donation, we can work out that they have their company logo on the movie or advertising…all options are possible- we are open to anything that will help us find the money.”
“If we don’t find the money, the project comes to a grinding halt and there’ll be no Ben Hall film- it’s all or nothing with Kickstarter.”
Everyone is welcome to the public meeting, or if you wish to find out more, people can visit their fundraising website.
