Organiser of the event Kim Muffet said the committee were elated to secure Mr FitzSimons for the lunch which will be held next year on March 21.
“Peter has broad appeal, he’s an author who has been quite prolific in his writing, a social commentator and highly skilled raconteur,” Mr Muffet said.
“He has country roots and as a current journalist he is around current issues.”
With Mr FitzSimons’ extensive list of achievements, attendees are sure to be captivated by the depth and breadth of his knowledge.
Currently Mr FitzSimons is a well respected columnist for The Sydney Morning Herald and a television presenter on Fox Sports.
He speaks four languages, has co-hosted radio shows with Mike Carlton and Doug Mulray and is a best selling author of approximately 20 books including the much celebrated historical accounts ‘Kokoda’ and ‘Tobruk.’
Along the way, Mr FitzSimons has played seven rugby tests for Australia and is the biographer of World Cup winning Wallaby captains, Nick Farr-Jones and John Eales, former opposition leader Kim Beazley, infamous bushranger Ned Kelly, war heroine Nancy Wake and magazine queen, Nene King.
He has interviewed every Australian Prime Minister from Gough Whitlam to Kevin Rudd as well as George Bush, Jodie Foster, Allan Border and Joe Montana, to name a few.
In 2011, Mr FitzSimons was named a Member of the Order of Australia for service to literature as a biographer, sports journalist and commentator, and to the community through contributions to conservation, disability care, social welfare and sporting organisations.
Along with the announcement that Mr FitzSimons will be attending the luncheon, Mr Muffet said organisation for the event was going well and he hoped to make it “even better” than last year.
“The committee is well underway with it’s planning, trying to better the lunch and we’ve had a lot of interest already,” Mr Muffet said.
“We’ve had some great positive feedback from the community and it seems to be attracting a lot of ex-Forbes people back to town.”
Tickets for the luncheon will be available in October and prices will remain at $120 per person.
