The Forbes Shire Council sponsored mixed pairs tournament was a great success for the Forbes Sports and Rec Club and saw many new faces grace our greens from other clubs and enjoying the fine weather, great greens, friendships, and most of all, bowls.
The carnival attracted 32 teams for the five game event which was contested right down to the wire to see who finished on top.
It was the Molong team of Dianne Wilson and Glen Miller who claimed the title with five wins and a plus 54 margin.
Runners-up were the Forbes combination of Anne Mackay and Bert Bayley with five wins, plus 36.
Third were last year’s champs, the brother and sister combination of Denise and Graham Rutherford with four wins, plus 37 and 4th went to another Forbes pair of Ruth Quinn and Glen Kearney with three wins and a draw to give them a plus 29 margin.
After Saturday’s three games the board had a number of three game winners but Sunday was another day and many of the likely winners fell by the wayside as the event panned out.
There was one game of minor pairs played with John Kennedy and Les Cannon having a win over the Hodge combination of Russell and Lawrence.
This weekend sees the first round of the major fours and on Saturday and will see Pat Coady, Kingsley Green, Don Craft and Don Drabsch take on John Williams, Shane Sharman, Ian Simmonds and Bruce Williams.
On Sunday we will see Len Frail, Viv Coady, Ron Thurlow and Wayne Burton up against Paul Quirk, Ric Stewart, Bert Bayley and Graham Rutherford.
This game has been shifted to Sunday as district has precedence of club games and Bert and Graham will be playing in the District Champion of Club pairs with Glen Kearney contesting the Champion of Club singles on Saturday in Parkes.
Let’s hope for a Forbes double.
Sunday will also see the 1st and 2nd round of the minor pairs played.
Sunday morning bowlers will play for the T and M Tyres sponsored trophy over the next three Sundays,
So forget the Sunday morning sleep in and come down for a roll and support Tony and Helen’s trophy.
Yours in bowls, Reggie.
