Following a meeting with the site’s tenant, who advised they did not require the whole outdoor space, council are currently seeking quotes for the replacement of fencing for the area approximately seven metres deep from the Browne Street shed with the rest of the area remaining unfenced.
The cost of installing the fence is between $6600 and $8000, which was of concern for councillor Jeff Nicholson at the July council meeting.
“I propose we wait for the consultation period to see if there are other options for the block,” he said at the meeting.
“I believe later on down the track it can be better utilised with a shelter for a second BBQ area which is badly needed.”
Councillor Phyllis Miller opposed this idea saying they needed to install the fence first before a community consultation.
“Let’s not hold up getting the security fence up for what’s already there,” she said.
At the meeting it was resolved that council would continue to seek further quotations to install a security fence and review the options for the use of the remaining cement slab in conjunction with community consultation.
In the meantime, upgrades to Apex Park are still underway with new sails to be erected soon.
“It’ll be a vastly improved play area,” mayor Ron Penny said.
Cr Penny said the Apex Park upgrades should be completed within the next fortnight.
