Freeda the Reader is jumping for joy she is so excited to be a part of Forbes Birth to Kinder’s Reading Down Town Day.
The seven foot tall Platypus will be bringing some big books to share with families in Forbes as part of this year’s Book Week theme, ‘Connect to reading; reading to connect’.
Freeda loves a good story and this is how she connects with reading.
“We are thrilled to be introducing Freeda the Reader to the Forbes community,” Bronwyn Clark from Forbes Town Library said.
“Freeda comes from Orange Civic Library and she tells me she can’t wait to meet some new friends in Forbes.”
Families can catch up with Freda at Forbes Town Library during Reading Down Town Day on August 29.
The morning will be action packed and families with young children are invited to come along to take part in the fun activities provided by local schools at the Anglican Parish Hall at 9.30am, Darren and Sharon Sutherlands “Yala Gari” performance at Forbes Town Hall starting at 10.30am and story time with Freeda the Reader at Forbes Town Library at 11.15am.
There will also be various reading activities for children in shops down town throughout the morning.
President of Forbes Birth to Kinder, Natalie Walker says that Reading Down Town Day is not only an opportunity to celebrate reading but also to increase awareness about the importance of reading to children right from birth.
“We are asking our community to support and encourage families to read to children right from birth so that every child may have a better start to a life of learning,” she said.
