Over 300 people are expected to attend throughout the day, where visitors will have the opportunity to tour the mine site and meet with Barrick employees from all aspects of the operation, including plant operators, the emergency response team and representatives of Human Resources, Safety and Environment.
Barrick Cowal general manager Alan Fearon said that many people may not realise the diverse range of jobs and skills required to operate a mine site.
“This weekend will be a great opportunity to open our gates to the community and give people an insight into the mining operation here at Cowal,” he said.
“We are proud of the work we do here on site and also of the personal and professional relationships we have fostered in the local community.
“This is a chance for our employees to showcase their work to family, friends and the wider community.”
There will be a number of activities throughout the day, including face painting and a jumping castle for the kids, as well as on-site bus tours through the processing plant with a stop to view the open pit and get up close to the larger than life trucks and machinery used on site.
Buses will be taking visitors to the site from Forbes, West Wyalong and Condobolin, however places are limited.
Bookings are essential and can be made by contacting Amy Weber on 6975 4819 before 5pm on Wednesday, September 3, unless booked out prior.
