The night was a huge success with many people claiming it was the best Show Ball yet.
Coordinator of the event, Susan Earl said it was a great night.
“We’ve had a lot of positive comments with many people saying it was one of the better Show Balls,” she said.
About 140 people attended the ball which the committee said was great because it wasn’t as crowded as last year, meaning more room for dancing the night away.
“We also changed the timing to earlier – it used to start at 8pm – and this worked well,” Mrs Earl said.
“People were keen to come at 7pm and then they could still go out afterwards.”
Mrs Earl said another improvement was the meal by Eat Your Greens, which was better than previous years when the food was just platters of nibbles.
“Also having all the formalities done at the beginning of the night was good,” she said.
“Rowan Woods did a great job as MC and Annabelle Green did a fantastic job with the showgirls – the questions were appropriate and well thought-out and you really got a feel for the personalities of the girls.”
Town Hall was transformed into an enchanted wonderland for the evening making it a beautiful atmosphere.
“The decorations were mind blowing,” Mrs Earl said.
“Huge thanks go to Kate Ralph for the coordinating and doing all the work in the decorating.”
Local band Risky Business provided the entertainment and had the crowd up and dancing early on with a progressive dance, followed by everyone’s favourite classics.
“We want all ages to feel comfortable and come and those extra additions are nice to do that,” Mrs Earl said.
The showgirls – Shannen Toole, Emily Pavey and Melissa Gaffney – were presented to the crowd and answered a number of questions put to them by last year’s showgirl Annabelle Green.
Special guest for the evening was Sally Newton, who was the Walgett Showgirl and runner-up at the Sydney Royal Easter Show this year.
Ms Newton was one of the Forbes Showgirl judges and was joined by locals Jack Woodburn and Gary Johnston.
Mrs Earl said the three judges had a tough job picking a winner of the Miss Showgirl competition, with the judging conducted prior to the Show Ball on Saturday afternoon.
The winner will be announced at the official opening of the show on Friday at 5.30pm before the bull riding event.
