Emily said the win was a surprise and looks forward to representing Eugowra.
“It was a bit of a surprise but I’m glad I did win and now I get to go on and try to get to Sydney,” she said.
Emily will now go on to represent Eugowra at the Zone Finals in February 2015.
The other Eugowra Showgirl entrants in this year’s competition were 19-year-old Jemma Howell and 20-year-old Megan O’Donnell, who Emily said were great.
“It was very tough, the other girls were very good and supportive – we had a lot of fun together,” she said.
The award was announced by 2013 Showgirl Heidi Welsh who said it had been a fantastic journey since she was named Eugowra’s centenary show showgirl.
Emily is currently a farmhand and milker at Moxey Farms and is due to start a Bachelor of Animal Science at the University of New England in March next year.
She completed school at Red Bend Catholic College in 2013 and loves polocrosse, preparing and exhibiting show cattle, reading and creative writing.
Emily hopes to use her degree to gain livestock knowledge to produce high quality beef cattle.
Janet Moxey from local dairy Moxey Farms officially opened the show, speaking on the dairy industry in NSW and Australia and talking about Moxey Farms, who milk 3500 cows daily and estimate they will produce 45 million litres of milk this year.
Ms Moxey loves Eugowra and the great sense of community.
“It’s a welcoming town with a lot of generous people,” she said.
“It has a can-do attitude and makes a success of everything it does.”
Another highlight of the opening was an award of appreciation and recognition, plus offer of life membership made to past president Kevin Townsend for his 10 years of service as Eugowra Show Society President.
