Sergeant Brad Russell from the Lachlan Local Area Command has reported that six notes were discovered in the last week.
Sergeant Russell said the bogus notes are “smaller” and “feel like paper” as opposed to cash.
He also said consumers should particularly look out for the plastic ‘window’ where the stars have been forged with white-out.
“If they find them they need to report it to us and we’ll follow it through from there,” he said.
The counterfeit money has only been seen in $50 notes and Sergeant Russell said most people are not recognising that the cash is fake until the end of day’s trade.
“We’re finding that a lot of people seem to find the notes when they are finishing up at night, we only had one case where the note was recognised straight away,” he said.
Anyone who is handed a fake bank note is advised to handle it as little as possible and contact police on 6853 9999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
