Rabobank Forbes branch manager Nick Turner said the purpose of the event was to bring together rural women to celebrate their ongoing contribution to rural business and community given the pivotal role they play that often goes unrecognised.
“Women in rural communities play a significant role in the success of a farming business and we felt it was important to recognise their contribution by hosting a day for them to network and hear from speakers providing inspiration and knowledge,” Mr Turner said.
Kicking off the day’s program was Edwina Beveridge 2014 NSW-ACT RIRDC Rural Women’s Award runner-up, who along with her husband, own and operate Blantyre Farms, a pig, sheep, cattle and cropping enterprise based at Young and Harden in south-western NSW.
Following Edwina the audience heard from Rabobank Forbes branch manager Nick Turner who demystified the ins and outs of commodity market hedging and explained commonly used and often misunderstood terminology behind hedging, basis, pricing components and grain marketing strategies.
Prior to a sit-down lunch Sarah Sivyer, Rabobank head of process improvement, addressed the audience with an inspirational talk about her career highlights to date. Ms Sivyer cited opportunities such as undertaking her Masters program at Oxford University, and helping to design Syngenta’s Food Security Agenda for work with smallholder farmers in Asia and Africa as career highlights.
