The new layout has allowed Bernardi’s to increase their range of fruit and veggies, with market specials being promoted.
Bernardi Group director Joseph Bernardi says they will be concentrating on having more market buys.
“We’ll feature what’s in abundance at the markets, which will be promoted in the new front bins as soon as you enter the store,” he said.
“We’ll be promoting in season fruit and veggies and because there’ll be more of them, it means we can sell them at a discount.
“That’s one of the main things – market specials and every week they’ll change.”
Another big change is that Bernardi’s will now only be selling fresh seafood in store.
Previously they sold imported and thawed seafood, but Mr Bernardi said now it will all be Australian and fresh.
Fresh seafood will be available in store on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
“At 9am on Friday the stock will arrive and once it sells out, you miss out,” Mr Bernardi said.
Market specials will again be a feature of the seafood range, which will be different each week, depending on what the fishermen catch.
There will also be everyone’s favourites such as Australian tiger prawns and salmon.
Some of the other changes include a new nut range, with a whole aisle dedicated to nuts; an expanded salad range ready for summer with reduced pricing on pre-packaged bags of salad; an improved Grab and Go section to increase convenience for customers, which is constantly evolving; and a new bulk meats section with whole primal cuts.
“It’s a good way to save money on buying meat,” Mr Bernardi said.
“We will even slice it for you when our butcher is here.
“Compared to the price of sliced meat, it’s good value.”
Bulk buys is another focus of Bernardi’s, with a whole section dedicated to bulk buy canned goods, as well as larger portion freezer items with one kilogram bags of frozen foods and seafood.
“The idea is to buy in large portions to save money – that’s the theme,” Mr Bernardi said.
“We’re trying to get in tune with what people want and use it to our advantage to deliver savings to our customers.”
