A total of six sculptures will be in the park come Wednesday, October 1 ready for the official unveiling, including five sculptures entered in the acquisition section of the Sculpture Forbes competition, and the large red three dimensional ‘a’, the first letter of the community ‘Amazing Project’ which will ultimately end up out on the stock route, along the Lachlan River, between Forbes and Condobolin.
One of the five sculptures entered in the Sculpture Forbes competition is Gillie and Marc’s Pyramid sculpture.
Forbes Shire Council yesterday created a cement slab at Albion Park to hold the Pyramid sculpture and this is where it will stay for the next year.
The winner of the $20,000 Sculpture Forbes acquisition prize will also be displayed in the park for the year.
A total of 17 sculptures will be in Forbes throughout the month of October for the Sculpture Forbes competition – five for the acquisition prize and 12 for the open competition.
The 12 smaller sculptures will be displayed around town in a variety of businesses including Cannibal Coffee, Anytime Fitness, Furniture One, Shimmer Candles, the Mike Davis building, the Platypus Art Gallery and Little Extras.
The Sculpture Forbes competition was established by Forbes Services Memorial Club last year and president of the club, Wayne Richards said it will be even better this year.
“We’ve got some known sculptors who have entered which is good,” he said.
Sculptors from Sydney, Canberra and the local region have entered this year’s competition.
Mr Richards expects the competition to take off with the launch of the Somewhere Down the Lachlan project and hopes that in five years time Sculpture Forbes will attract some big name sculptors.
This year there are four divisions with prize money to be awarded to the winner of each division including the $20,000 acquisition prize, $4,000 for the open section, $1,000 in the student category (years 10 to 12) and $500 for the people’s choice award.
Member for Dubbo and Minister for Arts, Troy Grant, will unveil the winning sculpture and announce other winners in the different sections at the official opening on Wednesday, October 1.
The opening is going to be a fun-filled, family affair and will kick off at Albion Park from 7pm.
There will be pizza, wine, beer, coffee and soft drinks available to purchase and music to entertain the crowd.
Forbes Art Society are currently busy running a teaser campaign in the lead up to the Somewhere Down the Lachlan Sculpture Trail launch and encourage the public to keep their eyes out for the rabbits.
