Mr Phillipzen then invited Janet Moxey, Director of Moxey Farms, who officially opened the 101st Eugowra Show.
Before opening the Show Mrs Moxey, who is a prominent dairy farmer in the area, gave some interesting information about an agricultural industry that is probably not as well known to most people as the wheat and wool industry.
The Australian Dairy Industry is a $13b farm, manufacturing and export industry. It is Australia’s 4th largest agricultural exporter.
There are 6700 dairy farms producing 9.5 b litres.
The dairy industry employs 43,000 people directly and another 100,000 indirectly providing related services. Australia provides eight per cent of the world’s export dairy products and the top three markets are Japan, China and Singapore.
Australia is known for providing good quality safe product which is a major consideration of consumers in developing countries.
Australians are some of the highest consumers of dairy products in the world, consuming over 150kgs per person per year.
Dairy products represented 25% of total packaged food sales in Australia in 2013, the highest of any category, closely followed by bakery.
NSW produces milk which is predominately sold within the state as fresh milk.
At a more regional level, in the Central Tablelands and Central West LLS areas there are approximately 23 dairy farms producing 85m litres of milk annually.
The average Australian dairy farm milks 258 cows producing 85m litres of milk annually.
At Moxey Farms they milk 3500 cows each day producing approximately … 12,500 annually. In 2014 they anticipate they will produce 45m litres.
Mrs Moxey said that Moxey Farms employs 100 people, the majority of which are locally based!
Mr Phillipzen announced that Kevin Townsend was awarded Life Membership of the Eugowra Show Society following the many years he committed to the Society, especially the last 10 years as Show Secretary.
His wife Rosemary was acknowledged for her support of Kevin during those years.
Certificates of Appreciation were presented to Eugowra Public School, St Joseph’s Catholic School, Eve Hayes, Susanne Wheeldon, Marie and Alan Noble and the Frazer family for their contributions to the Show.
The sheep dog trials, tractor pull, chainsaw and fencing challenge, draught horse log snig and pumpkin snatch all proved very popular.
The new Truck Show and Shine was a big hit with Peter Wykamp’s truck the winner.
The dog jump challenge, six bar horse jump and farmer’s challenge provided lots of entertainment for the onlookers.
Once again the show finished up with the smash-up demolition derby, which was won by Peter Holmes of Trangie- with the Most Spectacular Drive of the night going to Geoffrey Blackstock of Peak Hill.
The spectacular and very popular fireworks brought the activities to a close.
President Peter said that although gate takings were down on last year (that was to be expected after the Centenary Show) it was a great day, with perfect weather; there was a good turnout of locals as well as visitors.
There was an increase on cattle numbers with the sheep numbers down, ring events were about the same, the truck show was a great success and in his first year as President he was ecstatic with the outcome.
Show Secretary, Sean Haynes, wishes to thank the community, local businesses and sponsors for their continued support of the Eugowra Show Society in making the 2014 Show a success.
