The Amazing Project is the creation of a sculpture of the word ‘amazing’ in large, three dimensional red letters on the stock route along the Lachlan River.
The first letter, ‘a’, is nearly complete and will be launched on Wednesday, October 1, at Albion Park, along with sculptures in the Sculpture Forbes competition and the Pyramid, as part of the Somewhere Down the Lachlan Sculpture Trail.
Ian ‘Bart’ Bartholomaeus from Midpro Engineering has come on board as project manager and has kindly offered to cut out all letters as a donation and has donated labour to fabricate one of the letters ready for painting and installation.
Somewhere Down the Lachlan Sculpture Trail founder Rosie Johnston is excited about the progress.
“It’s so rewarding having the first letter produced already as it is almost a sculpture in its own right,” she said.
“The dimensions are enormous and I think it will make a great impact with the public.
“I can’t wait to see the finished product; I have been following it the whole way and keep popping into Midpro to annoy them.”
Ms Johnston is very grateful for all the support she has received from Bart, as well as MD Steel, who are currently powder coating the letter red.
“Bart has been so generous to fabricate this letter gratis…he is a top bloke and so proactive and positive about the project,” she said.
“He is project managing the whole job and has negotiated with Forbes Powder Coating (who have also been exceptionally generous) to colour it a beautiful bold red. “When companies like this come on board to support us it is just...well, amazing.”
When it is completed, the letter ‘a’ will be temporarily installed in Albion ‘art’ Park to act as a teaser campaign for the Amazing Project.
“This is perfect as it’s a way of promoting this ‘town square-like’ meeting place,” Ms Johnston said.
“This will then be a reminder to people of the project and perhaps the next letter will go down near Mezzanine or somewhere that is relevant to the letter ‘m’.
“After that we’ll push hard to get the complete word ‘amazing’ finished and put out on the stock route between Forbes and Condobolin, which will look amazing in amongst the gum trees, literally.
“It will be strong enough that stock can graze all around it without any problems and it will also be able to get ‘wet feet’.”
Ms Johnston said she hopes when people see how impressive the first letter is, it will be an incentive to support or sponsor the rest of the project.
“We are hoping businesses or groups will sponsor individual letters which have been costed out at $6,000 each,” she said.
“We hope to really push for grants and sponsorship and see the project complete within two to three years.
“Also, we do hope people within the community can offer support in kind … they may be a welder or own a big truck that can do a site delivery or be skilled at pouring concrete to help with installation.
“If anyone has an uncle who owns a steel company let us know.”
The official launch will be at Albion Park on Wednesday, October 1 at 7pm, and will feature a great festival atmosphere with some exciting details.
The event is completely free and is open to the general public, with food and drinks available to purchase.
Member for Dubbo Troy Grant and Member for Orange, Andrew Gee will be in attendance to unveil the winning Sculpture Forbes $20,000 acquisition prize.
