The event was held over four days from September 18 to 21 and was fiercely contested with 47 rider/horse combinations in the draw for the first class on Thursday and 20 making it through to the final Grand Prix event on Sunday.
Faults were accumulated over three events and Dave and his mount RR Dyranta came into the last day in second placing.
Dave knew Dyranta must jump two faultless rounds over the big challenging course to have a chance of victory.
The draw for this event was based on rankings so Dyranta’s first round with no faults was followed by the combination leading the event, Tim Clarke and Caltango.
Caltango had not touched a rail in the two previous classes but as will happen in showjumping, the combination was unlucky and one rail fell.
Dave and Dyranta then had to only jump a second clear round for victory and despite the pressure, the pair produced a faultless, confident round to win the title.
Dave Cameron was a Forbes Pony Club member for many years and won three Pony Club State Showjumping Championship titles during that time.
A qualified PD/H/PE teacher he taught for three years at Parkes High School but showjumping has always been his passion and six years ago he and his partner, Tallara Barwick, established a successful equestrian training and coaching facility in Sydney.
Earlier this year Dave was invited to compete in China and placed in individual and teams events riding borrowed horses.
Dave still regards Forbes Show as his local show and at this year’s event their team consisted of 18 horses and 13 riders.
Dave and Tallara are committed to developing the sport of showjumping in this country and have aspirations for further international competition.
