The cross bred mixed lambs are believed to have been taken between Sunday, September 14, when the farmer last counted the sheep, and Sunday, September 21.
This is the second stock theft incident this month with 170 crossbred lambs stolen from a property on the South Condobolin Road just three weeks ago.
Sergeant David Rhodes from the Lachlan Local Area Command said it’s often hard to locate the sheep because, unlike cattle, they do not have electronic ear tags.
“It’s unfortunately a problem because often the places are so big and people only count sheep infrequently so a lot of the time they don’t know they’ve even been taken,” Sergeant Rhodes said.
Stock theft carries a maximum penalty of ten years gaol, dependant on the circumstances, and Sergeant Rhodes asked the community to come forward if they have any information about the incident.
“If the public have seen anything or heard any rumours, please contact Crime Stoppers or the Forbes Police,” he said.
“If anyone sees unusual or suspicious vehicles or people in their local area can they please take down the details and contact us on 02 6853 9999.
“Every piece of information, regardless of how trivial it may seem at the time, is of interest to police”.
