That changed when she drove the Barry Molloy, Forbes, trained Set For Gold to victory in the Walkers Ag-n-Vet and Rawson Homes Benchmark 50 Handicap (1600 metres).
Catherine Markwort is extremely well liked and her friends and supporters amongst the biggest crowd at Forbes for many years cheered her all the way down the straight.
Stepping up to 1600 metres after racing over shorter trips, Set For Gold (6.00) raced in third position before dashing clear for a strong win over Rendering (Joe Saiki, 3.00, 2.80 fav) and Another Miss Pick (Michael Hackett, 26.00).
George Tanks from Parkes who owns the Barry Molloy trained Set For Gold also owns the Rodney Robb, Nyngan, trained Oh So Beautiful (Mathew Cahill, 7.00) steadily made ground before reaching the lead in the straight and scoring by over a length from Grand Prior (Claire Gee, 15.00) and Destiny Deauxville (Ken Dunbar, 21.00).
Margaret and Neil Johnson from Geurie bred and own Boy Ohboy, winner of the Forbes Machinery Centre – Forbes Sports and Recreation Club Maiden Handicap (1200m).
Their young stallion Eyeful also sired Icanacandy, a recent winner at Wellington.
Sent around the field early by Jake Pracey-Holmes, Boy Ohboy (4.60 fav) then led the rest of the trip when defeating Sagacious Rose (Paul Payne, 21.00) and Nice And Alert (Greg Ryan, 5.00).
Boy Ohboy is trained at Gulgong by Brett Thompson.
Rachel Hunt rod the second winner of her career when Tiger’s Story, trained by her master Paul Theobald at Bathurst, was a convincing winner of the Wholesale Tracks – Uniflex Maiden Plate (1400m).
From midfield Tiger’s Story (4.40, 4.20) took control in the straight to beat Wollartant (Tony Cavallo, 8.00) and Il Buco (Mathew Cahill, 4.00, 3.80 fav).
Father and daughter, Goulburn trainer Mark Gee and apprentice Claire Gee, combined to win the Automation Group – BWR Accountants and Advisers Benchmark 50 Handicap (1100m) with Outrageous Deal.
Leading most of the way, Outrageous Deal (5.00, 9.00) held on to beat Royal Society (Rachel Hunt, 9.00) and Future Destiny (Michael Hackett, 13,00, 9.00).
Racing at Narromine (TAB) on Saturday with the feature event being the Dandy Cup.
