Four events were organised on the day including the 2km, 5km, 10km races as well as the inaugural half marathon which kicked off the festival at 7am. 

Forbes Running and Triathlon Club’s publicity officer Sarah Davies said it was a great day with 40 people more than last year participating.

“We received lots of positive feedback and we’re really happy with the day and how the inaugural half marathon went,” she said. 

Thirty athletes participated in the half marathon and only one local tackled the race, with Scott Reid finishing sixth overall on a time of 01:40:35. 

Mrs Davies said the new event will “most definitely” be continued in 2015.

“There are not many [half marathons] in the area so we are very keen to develop it further and perfect the course for next year,” she said. 

Mrs Davies said, like last year, the club will send out emails to all pre-registered entrants in order to get feedback about the event and gather ideas for next year’s running festival. 

Mrs Davies congratulated everyone who entered the event and thanked those who helped make the day possible.

“We congratulate the winners of each category in all the events and it was lovely to see so many people beating their own personal bests,” she said. 

“We also thank all the people who were barbeque marshals, ran drink stations and helped out in any way.

“The day couldn’t have happened without the work of our volunteers who gave up their Sunday. We’re very very grateful for their help.”
