Already 20 teams have signed up for the event on Saturday and more are expected to roll in by the weekend.
The event will be held at the Forbes Rugby grounds from 12pm with the cooking set to begin at 3pm.
The national titles draw people from all over the countryside and president of the Forbes BBQ Society Chris Roylance said with $4000 in prize money and status on the line, who wouldn’t want to be involved?
“This championship gives you bragging rights for 12 months, or forever,” he said.
From coal Webers to wood barbeques, all cooking styles and marinades are accepted however entrants are encouraged to read the rules of the contest on the event’s website.
Mr Roylance said many previous barbeque champions would be back this year to regain their title and he had some hints for newcomers.
“The biggest tip I can give people is to rest their meat after they cook it…it helps the meat relax,” he said.
There are four categories this year including chicken, beef, pork and lamb.
As well as all the barbeque action, people will be entertained with face painting, pony rides, market stalls, food vendors and a fully serviced bar open all afternoon.
Gabe Middleton will provide the musical entertainment and will be supported by local buskers.
Forbes is the only location Australia-wide to host the National BBQ Championships and this is the fourth year they have been held in town.
Mr Roylance said he hopes next year each state will host a state championship, encouraging more people to the national titles.
“The vision is that Forbes will be the barbeque capital of Australia,” he said.
“This is the only national title that we have every year so it promotes tourism and gives Forbes a national presence.”
