The local clay target shooter shot 247 of a possible 250 to qualify for the NSW clay target shooting team for the second year in a row.
He placed in the top 15 of 348 shooters, earning a place in the national competition in April next year.
It won’t be the first time he’s fronted the competition - Ellison also qualified for the nationals and was part of the winning Australian team earlier this year.
Over a weekend of competition in Wagga Wagga he scored 445 of a possible 450 points to quality for the team.
The weekend’s top 25 Australians proceeded to a nine-nation competition the following Monday.
The top 20 scores were submitted to international competition to see Australia win the day and claim the David Mackintosh international clay target trophy.
It’s all in a day’s relaxation for the local orchardist, whose most prized possession is his 682 Gold E X Trap Bretta shotgun.
It’s also very possibly in his genes, as Luke followed his dad Digger into the sport when he was about 10 years old.
The family has been in target shooting for more than 100 years and the tradition looks set to continue.
“My dad was on four state teams,” Ellison said.
“Now my son and daughter love it. Joe (8) stays with me and supports me.”
