Jack Markwort who is completing a bricklaying certificate III, as well as Liam Whitfield and Jacob Molloy who are both training in engineering – fabrication trade certificate III, were three of 15 apprentices across the electorate to receive the scholarships.
The scholarship provides first year apprentice recipients with $5000 each year for three years, or a one-off encouragement payment to trainees who are further along in their apprenticeship.
The grant is part of a $2.4 million program introduced by the NSW Liberals and Nationals designed to assist trainees who face significant challenges and barriers in completing their qualification.
Jack Markwort is completing a third year in his trade with John Gunn Bricklaying and said the scholarship will be a great support.
“I was over the moon,” he said.
“It will help me buy some tools and a new bricklaying trowel which normally costs about $100.”
Member for the Dubbo electorate Troy Grant congratulated those who were successful in receiving the grants.
“These scholarships are a credit to all apprentices who are working hard in their chosen field,” Mr Grant said.
“Apprentices play a vital role in the NSW economy.
That is why the NSW Government recognises the need to provide additional financial support to those apprentices facing difficulty and help them gain their qualification.”
