NBN Co has recently announced that construction has commenced on a fixed-wireless tower in the Forbes area which will provide fast broadband services to 402 premises in town.
An NBN Co spokesperson said the site of the tower has been chosen to maximise coverage in the area and has already received relevant development approvals.
Construction of the fixed-wireless tower should be completed within 12 months.
The town centre will be covered by an NBN fixed-line service however at this stage it hasn’t been confirmed when that will occur.
Further information regarding the NBN rollout in the Forbes area will be published by the government and NBN Co as soon as possible.
Forbes is one of six other sites in Calare that have reached the building stage, including Blayney, Carcoar, Mandurama, Neville, Mount Panorama and Sunny Corner.
Federal Member for Calare, John Cobb is thrilled with the progress of the NBN project in the region.
“To add a further seven sites to the ones already up and running in Calare is fantastic, especially for residents of these smaller towns which haven’t had access to good internet services,” he said.
“The rollout is happening much faster than expected, and we’re certainly seeing the benefits in Calare.”
Several other towns in the Calare electorate are scheduled to get access to NBN over the next 12 months, with the worst services towns given priority.
