Year 11 student Brad Herbert and year eight’s Dominique Holland have both been selected, for the second consecutive year, for the Australian All Schools Athletics Championships.
The selection came after both qualified in hammer throw at the NSW All Schools Athletics Championships in Sydney two weeks ago.
Year eight student Vince Reilly also had great success at the state competition.
Vince gained a third place in both hammer throw and discus and only just missed out on qualifying for the next level as only first and second progress to nationals.
The national championships will be in Adelaide from December 5-7.
At nationals last year Dominique placed second overall and said she is excited to return.
“It will be a good experience going to Adelaide,” she said.
“I’ve never been there before so I’m excited.”
This is the second major competition for Brad in the last few months, having recently returned from the Oceania Area Championships in Rarotonga, Cook Islands with a silver medal.
He said while representing Australia has been good preparation for the upcoming championships he believes the competition will be strong.
“It has been a great preparation for me,” he said.
“But it will be a tough competition and we’ll have to work hard beforehand.”
As a year 11 student this year will be the last time Brad will represent his school before moving into senior athletics.
