Forbes firefighters have proved that they are at the top of their game, gaining flaming good results from the Fire and Rescue NSW state championships.

The championships were held over the weekend in Bathurst and 28 teams from across NSW and Victoria’s Country Fire Authority competed.
Forbes was represented by Fire and Rescue deputy captain Andrew Rousell and firefighters Mathew Teale, Brendan Hayes and Mark Willis.
The team came fifth in a breathing apparatus event and overall Forbes came 12th on 345 points.
Mathew Teale also had success coming second in the state for the individual ladder event and just 1/10th of a second behind the overall state champion.
Over the three day event, firefighters competed in 14 events that simulated rescue situations such as responding to house fires, as well as HAZMAT and car incidents.
Forbes Fire and Rescue captain Brian Clarke said the local station was rapt with the results.
“While we’ve always been competitive in the past, we’ve never done this well,” captain Clarke said.
“It just shows the training and skills they have learned here has paid off for them.
“They’ve done us proud and are on top of their game.”
The overall winner of the Fire and Rescue NSW state championships was Dorrigo.
The state championships occur every two years after seven zone championships are held around the state.
The next state championships will be held in Wyong and in March 2016 Forbes will host a zone championship.
