Savage is excited to be heading to Forbes to shake things up as the special guest for one of the biggest party events ever seen in the central west.
He joins headlining acts Chet Faker and Matt Corby in the impressive Australasia-only VANFEST line-up and is all set to see the night off with a bang.
“I was looking for someone to finish the night out on a high...and what better way to do that than with ‘Freaks’ and ‘Swing’,” VANFEST co-organiser Matt Clifton said.
“It’s going to be amazing.”
Clifton said Savage was a perfect choice to compliment the rest of the line-up, bringing hip-hop beats to the VANFEST stage.
“He’s very current on the charts and I don’t think we could beat it to finish off the night,” he said.
“I think he’ll bring a hell of a lot of fun.”
The Samoan rapper skyrocketed to fame with the release of his 2005 single ‘Swing’ which sold over one million copies and made Savage the first New Zealand hip-hop artist to earn platinum status.
Earlier this year, ‘Swing’ reached the top of the ARIA charts and went double platinum in Australia after it was remixed by Australian producer Joel Fletcher.
Savage currently features on the number six ARIA charts single ‘Freaks’ by Timmy Trumpet.
The VANFEST audience will have the privilege of witnessing Savage’s DJing debut.
“The cool thing is, I’m doing DJ sets which I did before I started in the music industry,” he said.
“This will be my debut behind the turntables...I’ve never been in front of a crowd on the decks.”
Savage said he is very keen to head out west for VANFEST.
“I’m definitely excited - I’ve been on Google maps to see where Forbes is,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to it.
“I enjoy travelling to places I’ve never been to before...I like marking places on the map.”
The rapper is no stranger to rural areas, having been all over Australia for shows and said as an artist he wants to experience different festivals around the country.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what VANFEST is all about,” he said.
His response when he found out the size of Forbes?
“It’ll be a bit of a circus...it’ll be cool,” he said.
VANFEST will be held at Forbes Showgrounds on Saturday, December 6 with tickets from $80.
Camping sites in VAN-CITY are also available and buses will be providing transport to festival-goers from Sydney, Dubbo, Orange, Bathurst, Wagga Wagga and Parkes.
The all-day event, running from 2.30pm until 11.30pm will feature all the trimmings you’d expect to see at the big city music festivals.
There’ll be plenty of activities around the grounds on festival day, as well as VIP tents, wet bars, meet and greets, preferred parking and much more.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from www.vanfest.com.au.
