Daniel has recently finished an eight year stint at top Sydney course, The Coast, and is due to take over management of the FGA’s pro shop and golf tuition program on December 1.
A certified PGA (Professional Golfers Association) member and recent instructor at The Coast and Helensburgh Driving Range, Daniel said he was keen to make a move to a regional course, particularly one that shares his philosophy on developing golf.
“I saw the position advertised and my wife [Holly] and I were looking for a bit of a change and just thought this was a great opportunity,” he said.
“It’s a new challenge and a bit exciting.”
A member of the Your Golf Pro buying group and also of the Jack Newton Junior Golf program, Daniel said he was keen to grow golf’s profile with younger players.
“That’s one of the main reasons I’m moving out there,” he said. “[The FGA] seem to have a good system with the way they are doing things.”
Newton said he visited Forbes recently and had a tour of the course, which he described as “a good track” and is looking forward to playing it as soon as he arrives in town.
Daniel took up golf when about 13 or 14, and was encouraged by his grandfather.
“My grandfather used to play [golf] and I used to have a few games a month with him, so that was how I got into it,” he said.
He quickly showed talent and within a few years had won a NSW schoolboys tournament and qualified for Victorian PGA championships.
Daniel said he had won events as an amateur but now concentrates on coaching and junior golf development.
