Forbes Shire Council has resolved to reestablish three alcohol free zones in Forbes, as well as to seek approval from Lachlan Local Area Command to make the Wiradjuri Dreaming Centre an alcohol prohibited area at their November council meeting.

Following a public exhibition period council have now adopted alcohol free zones in three locations for a period of four years, which will expire on October 14, 2018.
The Forbes CBD, the area surrounding Forbes Hospital and a section along Union Street will continue to be alcohol free zones.
Council are also currently working to make the Wiradjuri Dreaming Centre an alcohol prohibited area following a request from a local Aboriginal elder.
Aboriginal elder Aileen Allen said the Dreaming Centre is a sacred area and they want it to be a family-oriented place where families and especially children, can feel safe.
Ms Allen said it’s like any other park in town and they don’t want it to be littered with empty beer bottles or needles.
Council must get approval from the Lachlan Local Area Commander before they can establish the Dreaming Centre as an alcohol prohibited area, so at the November council meeting resolved to write to Superintendent Chris Taylor with the request.
When they receive approval from the Local Area Commander, council will then declare the Dreaming Centre as an alcohol prohibited area 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
They will also erect conspicuous signs at the outer limits of the area.
