Along with his Harriman Roylance Racing partner Greg Harriman, Justin and wife Bree Roylance will make up two of about 40 entrants in today’s finals, which are due to start at 5pm this afternoon.
Justin admitted his second season in the superboats series had not been his best, with mechanical issues preventing the team from competing in all but three meetings.
“We’ve had a few mechanical woes with the boat this season, so we’re not in contention for the points,” Roylance said this week.
“But we’re not going to take it easy on the other guys at all. We can certainly claw our way up the ladder a bit and maybe climb into the top three,” he said.
Apart from Justin and Bree, there is strong interest in the sport from Forbes, with local panel-beater Sam Leonard acting as navigator for Greg Harriman today.
Joel Duggan has also previously performed this role for Harriman, while Justin’s younger brother Mitch Roylance is the navigator for Cowra pilot David Moodie, who races for the Jackhammer team in the same division as Harriman Roylance Racing.
With meetings held at Temora and Griffith and locals involved in competition, the sport also attracts a good contingent of Forbes spectators.
Justin said V8 boat racing is a great day out.
“Definitely,” he said. “It’s a great spectator and family-friendly sport. There will be a jumping castle [at Lake Centenary] and it’s affordable,” he said.
Today’s Temora meeting will start later than previously advertised, due to the expected hot weather, and will now start about 5pm, and finish around 10pm.
Tickets are $25 for adults or $5 for children between 5-16 years.
