Betland was called to accept several major trophies at Forbes Golfers Association’s annual presentation night last Saturday, most notably the award for winning his 10th Forbes A-grade club championship in October.

He was also one half of the winning four-ball best-ball championships team, with Ray Taylor, and the recipient of the Wilf Hodges Memorial, a long running stableford event held earlier in the year.

Most recently he collected the major trophy at the FGA Frank Spice Classic, carding one under the card to win the November tournament by three shots.

A modest Betland yesterday said he could always ­improve.

“I’ve played OK [this year],” he said.

“I’ve had a couple of good wins, I suppose, and some pretty good results in other tournaments.”

Betland also won the Dubbo Open, his second title at that course, while winning the Trundle Open on sand, and was second at both the Parkes and West Wyalong opens.

In February he will begin weekly trips to Sydney to join Moore Park Golf Club’s division one pennants team. Over six consecutive weekends he will play against some of Sydney’s best golfers, on some of the city’s best rated courses - Bonnie Doon, Long Reef and Avondale.

“It does for sure,” Betland said, asked if the pennants competition will improve his game.
