The release of results signals a new chapter for these students, with many now set to pick up more books, tools or even bags as they head overseas.
This year 133 students graduated from Forbes schools and received their ATARs, a score from zero to 99.95 required to apply for a position in a university course.
Dux of Forbes High School Sam Williams, received an ATAR of 81.65.
While he was pleased with his result, Sam said he felt “pretty relaxed the whole way through it”.
“I was hoping for around 80 to get what I needed for the course,” he said.
“I wasn’t really worried about it though, until everyone else started stressing, and then I got stressed that I wasn’t worrying.”
While first round-offers for university will not be delivered until January, Sam believes his mark will be enough to get him into his chosen degree - a bachelor of exercise/science at the University of Wollongong.
Dux of Red Bend Catholic College Yvette Quinn received an ATAR of 96.8, which should also gain her entry into her dual degree of choice - a bachelor of law/ bachelor of arts at the University of Sydney.
Yvette was aiming for a mark of 95, but said that her ATAR surpassed her expectations. “When I saw my mark, I was doubting whether it was mine or not,” she said.
“I was wondering if they’d made a mistake.” Yvette said she is relieved to be able to study the course she wanted.
“It’s a big relief to know that I’m in university,” she said.
“At the end of the day, that’s the main thing...some people might have high expectations, but as long as you get into whatever it is you want to do, that’s all that matters.”
Mayor of Forbes Ron Penny congratulated all Forbes students on completing their secondary studies.
“I’d like to congratulate all the Forbes students completing their HSC and wish you all the very best for your future,” Cr Penny said.
This week, 55,482 HSC students received their ATAR, and nearly one-third received a mark of 80.00 or more.
The median ATAR for all students this year is 68.95, down from 69.2 last year.
