In front of a crowd of almost 200 at the Australia Day Rotary Breakfast, Mr Shine was recognised for his outstanding contribution to the community.
Rotarian Chris Finkle presented Mr Shine with the award and said he has been “one of the keenest participants in nearly all facets of Forbes’ life.”
“From sport of all kinds, to community meetings, the opening of a new business or the funeral of a well respected community member, you would most likely find Barry, with camera and notebook in hand,” Mr Finkle said.
“Barry often gave up his personal time, something many of us perhaps took for granted, taking photos of weekend or other after-hours activities, meetings and gatherings.”
This year there were four finalists for the Forbes Rotary Ambassador award.
Runners up included the Clifton family for their organisation of Vanfest, John Saleh for his work with the NSW Small Winemakers Committee and Shaun and Troy Reid on behalf of the Forbes Rodeo Committee.
As well as the presentation of awards, residents who gathered early by Lake Forbes were treated to bacon and egg rolls supplied by Woolworths and fresh fruit provided by Betland’s Orchard.
This year’s Forbes Ambassador, Andy Paschalidis, was officially welcomed and gave a speech - a big hit at the breakfast.
Forbes Rotary also used the morning to launch their Easter raffle early, which this year has a first prize of $1000 and $500 open order for second prize.
