Greg Grogan might be president of Forbes rugby league club, but he showed he also knows his way around the pool yesterday, winning the prestigious Tom Drane Memorial Swim.

Perfect conditions greeted participants in the Forbes Diggers Swimming Club’s Australia Day swim and Grogan gave a close to perfect performance in the 30m and 50m events, finishing just 0.24 seconds outside his nominated times.
Local triathlete Nick Field also demonstrated good knowledge of his swimming ability, to be runner-up, 0.35 seconds outside his times, with former Diggers president Ben Coles third (0.65 seconds).
Diggers spokesman David Sly said club members were very pleased with the attendance for the Tom Drane Memorial, which drew participants from a range of ages. Some of the action was also documented by a film crew from the Nine Network’s 60 Minutes (see front page). Trophies were also presented to winners and placegetters in the 30m and 50m junior and senior events, and to the top three in scratch men’s and women’s races.

Juniors -
30m - 1st Jack Carty (0.36), 2nd Isaac Sly (0.79), 3rd Jordy Carty (1.62); 50m - 1st Abby Sly, 2nd Jack Carty, 3rd Isaac Sly.
Seniors -
30m - 1st Matt Jack (0.02), 2nd David Sly (0.06), 3rd Nick Russell; 50m - 1st David Stibbard (0.03), 2nd Ian Prior (0.10), 3rd Nick Field (0.18).
Scratch races (50m) -
Men’s - 1st Matt Coles (30.19 seconds), 2nd Joe Maitland (32.09), 3rd Tom Maitland (32.34).
Women’s - 1st Lisa Drane (37.52), 2nd Bridgette Stibbard (39.72), 3rd Tamara Maitland (42.61).
