A group of women have started the Forbes Women’s Softball club and will be hosting a registration day at Halpins Flat next Saturday (February 7) at 2pm.
Spokeswoman Candice Morrison said the sport hasn’t been played in Forbes for many years but a group of locals believe it is time for its return.
“We are looking for any women that are interested in playing, umpiring or helping with committee duties,” Candice said.
Cathy Kerr from Softball NSW has agreed to visit Forbes next Saturday to help the competition make a start.
“Cathy will be offering information and guidance as we try to build up this once very strong sport.
“Softball NSW will also be selling softball gloves or mitts at discounted rates,” Candice said.
“Because of the late start in the season we are hoping to play an 8-9 week competition from February until April and then come back in October to have a bigger and better 2015 / 2016 season.
“But it all depends on the number of team and player nominations we receive.
Once we have gauged the initial response we will hopefully have a general meeting to establish a committee to help build the competition.”
Candice said women can find out more by visiting a new Forbes Womens Softball page on Facebook.
